New Milford, CT Property Assessments, are you thinking “I got mine and I think you are nuts!”?
The revaluation for New Milford, CT is finished. So you got your assessment in the mail and you totally disagree with the new assessment. What do you do now? First, let me say that most people I have spoken with are pretty happy with the new assessment. But mistakes can be made!
You must contact Vision Appraisal Technologies at 888.844.4300 to set up an appointment. It is imperative you do so immediately, you only have until January 12, 2011 to place this call to make your appointment!
A few things to remember when looking at your new assessment.
- The assessment is based on 70% of fair market value of your property on October 1, 2010.
- Do not try to calculate taxes based on this new assessment. The new mil rate will be out in the spring of 2011 and will be applied at that time to the new assessed value of your home. If you calculate taxes with the current mil rate and new assessment your calculation will be wrong!!!
- If you have an approved P.A. 490 farm, forest or open space exemption, it is reflected on the assessment. Other exemptions are NOT part of this notice but WILL BE APPLIED TO THE FINAL ASSESSMENT!
For those that disagree with the current assessment, informal hearings will be held at 25 Church Street by appointment only. You are encouraged to bring any and all documentation with you that supports your claim of an error. (Make sure you make copies as originals will not be returned to you.) If you are unable to appear in person, telephone appointments can be made. Again, call Vision Appraisal Technologies to make the appointment, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm from now through January 12, 2011. Vision Appraisal Technologies states you should remember, the person making the appointment for you is not able to discuss property values with you. That is what your appointment is for!
If you would like to review your new property assessment in New Milford, CT online, please visit Vision Appraisal Technology online. The site is user friendly, you will be prompted to register, once done all information is free of charge to you.
If you are still not satisfied with the informal hearing, you will have to file a written appeal to the Board of Assessment Appeals on or before March 19, 2011. Applications for this appeal can be picked up at the New MIlford, CT Assessor’s Office or on the Town of New Milford website.
